2ND Clutch Assembly: Reassembly
- Lubricate piston seals with transmission fluid, then install piston into drum using Seal Protector (J-23080-A) to keep from damaging lip seals.
- Install 22 piston return springs and spring seat on piston. Compress return springs and seat and install retaining snap ring.
NOTE: Ensure that spring seat does not catch in snap ring groove.
- Install 2nd clutch-to-3rd clutch thrust washer so that tang seats in slot of 2nd clutch hub. Retain washer with petroleum jelly.
- Lubricate clutch plates with transmission fluid. Install plates into drum starting with cushion plate (wave washer), alternating steel and composition plates until all clutch plates are installed.
- Install 2nd clutch spacer plate into drum. If necessary, expand spacer plate with screwdriver until ends are evenly butted together seating tightly into drum. Install spacer plate retaining snap ring. Install ring gear into drum with grooved edge facing up, then install retaining snap ring.
