Axle Shafts - Front: Removal

  1. Raise vehicle and remove drive wheel. Drain transaxle fluid. Remove locking hub. Remove circlip from drive axle. Remove stabilizer ball joint nut. Remove castle nut from tie rod end. Remove mounting bolts from brake caliper. Remove caliper from steering knuckle, and suspend using wire. Remove stud nut from steering knuckle.
  2. Support lower suspension arm with a jack. Remove lower strut bracket bolts. Lower jack and disconnect knuckle from lower suspension control arm. Pull outer drive axles from drive hubs. To remove right side inner joint, use large screwdrivers or pry bars to pry inner joint from transaxle to release retaining circlip. To remove left side inner joint, remove mounting bolts from inner drive joint.
NOTE: DO NOT  disassemble outer CV drive joint. If joint is faulty, replace as an assembly. DO NOT  disassemble differential side joint assembly.
