CONDITION:
Engine may develop a miss and/or die. Only code 12 will be set, no trouble codes. Vehicle may start if the Distributor harness is wiggled.

CAUSE:
Wiring harness from Distributor to the strap on the firewall is too tight (see Figure 1). Normal engine vibration causes the wires in the harness to break at the Distributor coupler connector. This condition causes loss of ignition spark and injector pulse.

CORRECTION:
All 1991 Sidekicks in stock or retailed should be inspected. If the harness is found to be tight, pull the Distributor harness through the tie straps on the firewall (see Figure 2) to allow more harness on the Distributor side.
If the harness is already broken; it will have to either be repaired or replaced.
NOTE:
Care must be used when disconnecting the connector from the distributor as it is lock tabbed to the Distributor. The lock tab is located on the underside of the connector and is pinched at the rear of the connector (harness end) to unlock it.
