Removal Procedure

J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool
- Remove the front floor console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT .
- Ensure the park brake lever is in the fully released position.
- Release the tension from the park brake cable system at the front cable adjusting nut (1). Using only hand tools, loosen the adjusting nut (1) completely to the end of the front cable threaded rod.
- Remove the rear carpet retainers. Refer to REAR CARPET RETAINER REPLACEMENT .
- Position the carpet forward in order to access the rear park brake cables and body pass-through grommets.
- With the park brake lever (1) in the released position, release the appropriate rear park brake cable (2) from the cable equalizer.
- Release the rear cable fitting from the park brake lever bracket and remove the cable from the lever assembly.
- Fold back the park brake cable routing tabs on the vehicle interior floor.
- Release the rear park brake cable body pass-through grommet.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
- Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL PROCEDURE .
- Remove the bolt (1) from the park brake cable-to-underbody retainer.
- Remove the bolt (1) from the park brake cable retainer at the lower suspension trailing arm.
- Remove the cable (2) from the opening in the vehicle underbody.
- Slide the inner cable (1) forward and remove from the actuator.
- Slide the spring (2) forward
- Using the J 37043, remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket
