The ignition system used on this engine has an Electronic Spark Advance (ESA) system consisting of an ECM, power unit, distributor, ignition coil, crank angle sensor, Fig. 4. In the ESA system, the ECM is programmed for the best ignition timing under every engine condition. Receiving signals from various sensors which indicate the engine condition it selects the most suitable ignition timing from its memory and operates the power unit.
