SERVICE INFORMATION

The factory has established servicing procedures for the removal and re-installation of the Swift GT/GTi rear air spoiler. This spoiler may need to be removed when servicing the rear window glass or rear washer nozzle. The following supplement is intended to assist you in the proper removal and reinstallation of this air spoiler.

REMOVAL

  1. Remove both the right and left upper door sealing cover and spoiler hole caps from the back door.
  2. Remove the right and left air spoiler nuts.
NOTE: Care should be taken at this time not to drop the nut inside the door panel.
  3. Disconnect the rear washer hose at the joint shown as "A" in Fig 1 .
  4. Attach a piece of vinyl tap to the back door panel in the front and back of the spoiler. The tape protects the paint finish against scratches caused by tools during the removal procedure.

  5. The air spoiler is fixed to the back door with adhesive tape. Separate the adhesion between the air spoiler and the back door by inserting a scraper. The insertion of the scraper should only cut the tape, so as to prevent damage to either the back door or the spoiler. As illustrated, start separating the adhesive tape from the very end of the front edge and then proceed towards the center of spoiler. To facilitate this step, insert a wedge (as illustrated in Fig 2 ) between the spoiler and back door during the separating process.
CAUTION: Use of a scraper is essential. If the removal is attempted by forcing the air spoiler without using the scraper, it can damage the paint finish on either the air spoiler or back door!

  6. When the adhesive tape has been separated from the front edge of the air spoiler, perform the same task to the rear edge of the air spoiler.
  7. Clean the surfaces of both the air spoiler and the back door to remove any remaining adhesive substance.

RE-INSTALLATION

Place double sided adhesive tape (3M #4211 or equivalent) onto the air spoiler. Install the air spoiler onto the back door in the reverse order of that of the removal procedure.
