Piston & Rod Assembly: Removal

- Drain engine oil. Remove cylinder head and oil pan from cylinder block. Remove oil pump strainer. Mark pistons, connecting rods and connecting rod caps for proper cylinder identification.
- Remove rod caps and install a piece of hose over threads of rod bolts. Remove carbon ridge from top of cylinder. Push piston and connecting rod out through top of cylinder.
- Remove rings from piston. Position arrow on piston head facing up. Using an arbor press and Piston Pin Remover/Installer (J-34838), press piston pin from connecting rod and piston.
