Starter - Direct Drive: Overhaul: Reassembly

Lubricate all surfaces as shown in Fig 4. Install over-run clutch, stop ring and armature ring (if removed) See Fig 1 Apply grease to drive lever and combine it with the armature then install armature in drive housing. See Fig 2
NOTE: When installing brushes, make sure that brushes and commutator have been thoroughly degreased, be sure that brushes are properly insulated. .
Install yoke and brush holder, then set all four brushes with their springs. Make sure brush holder is properly aligned so that locating tabs are in the proper position to allow for the through bolts to the front housing. See Fig 3
Install commutator end housing, install gasket , brake spring, then install armature plate and install end cap with grease filling about 40% of the end cap. See Fig 5
Install and tighten 2 solenoid-to-drive housing screws. Install starter housing field coil lead-to-solenoid terminal and tighten retaining nut.
