Starter - Direct Drive: Overhaul: Disassembly
- Scribe mating surfaces of starter housing and drive housing and mating surfaces of solenoid and drive housing for reassembly reference.
- Remove starter housing field coil lead-to-solenoid terminal retaining nut. Remove 2 screws holding solenoid to drive housing. Remove solenoid.
- Remove two commutator cap screws from the end housing, then take off commutator end cap, armature plate and brake spring. See Fig 1
- Loosen and remove 2 Through bolts and remove commutator end housing. Remove brushes from brush holder, remove brush holder 5)Remove yoke, armature and drive lever. To remove over-run clutch, push stop ring in toward clutch side, remove armature ring, and slide-off over-run clutch. See. Fig 2.
