Starter - Direct Drive: Description

NOTE: Four types of starter motors are used throughout the Swift model line. They are, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0 and 1.2 Kw. The 1.2 Kw is primarily used on the Swift GT Automatic. For Swift GT Automatic see STARTER - GT (A/T) article. The 0.8, 0.9 and the 1.0 are identified by a color label attached to the starter RED=0.8 YELLOW=0.9 GREEN=1.0. The 0.8 and 0.9Kw are conventional type direct drive and the 1.0, 1.2Kw are gear reduction type.

The starter is a conventional direct drive unit consisting of a starter motor assembly and separate plunger-style solenoid (Magnetic Switch). The solenoid is activated when the ignition switch is closed, causing a yoke to engage the starter pinion with the flywheel.
