SERVICE ACTION NO. SA - POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION HOSE

Model(s): 1989-90 Suzuki Sidekick

Section Title: Service Action

Division: Automotive

Category: Campaign

Bulletin No.: SC-01 Nov 90

Date: November 1990

APPLICABLE VEHICLES

All 1989-90 1.6 liter Suzuki Sidekicks.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Suzuki has determined that the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve breather hose on the 1989-90 1.6 liter Sidekick may freeze during extended driving at extremely low ambient temperatures of -4 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius), due to the small inside diameter of the hose. If this passage freezes, it may result in loss of engine oil and possible engine damage.

To correct this condition, a larger diameter PCV breather hose may be installed on all affected vehicles which may be driven under the low ambient temperature conditions described above.

OWNERS NOTIFICATION

Suzuki Sidekick owners will be notified starting November 20, 1990, of this Service Action by American Suzuki Motor Corporation (Refer to OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTER  ). Owners will be encouraged to have the service part installed if they anticipate using their Sidekick under the specific condition that may produce the freezing action.

SUBJECT: Service Action SA

Dear Mr/Mrs/Ms VIN

This notice is to inform you that American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) is conducting a Service Action that may include your vehicle.

Suzuki has determined that the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve breather hose on the 1989-90 1.6 liter Sidekick may freeze during extended driving at extremely low ambient temperatures of 4 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius) due to the small inside diameter of the hose. It this passage freezes, it may result in loss of engine oil and possible engine damage.

To prevent the possibility of the freezing condition, ASMC is providing the owners of the affected vehicles with a new breather hose assembly installed at no charge. the new assembly has a wider passage which prevents the hose from freezing.

If you feel you may drive your Sidekick under the low ambient temperature conditions described above, please contact your nearest Suzuki dealer as soon as possible to arrange for a service date and to ensure that your dealer will have the parts available for you.

Instruction for performing this service has been sent to your dealer.

When you arrive for your pre-scheduled service, please present this letter to your Suzuki dealer.

If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the Postage paid reply card and return it to us.

We apologize for this inconvenience, however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
