COMPLAINT

Locks in gear or won't select reverse/fifth gears.

CAUSE

Gear shift fork pin compresses and falls out of shift fork.

CORRECTION

Install modified fork pin. (See Fig 1

CAUTION WHEN SERVICING

When assembling the gear shift fork and shaft after disassembly, special attention should be given to the following:

  1. The modified reverse gear shift fork pin is longer than the other (0.187 in.)and must only be installed in the reverse gear shift fork See Fig 2 . If the late type reverse gear shift fork pin is installed on the low or high speed shift fork shaft by mistake, the pin will hit against the transmission upper case during disassembly, making the removal of the gear shift fork shaft impossible.
  2. When pressing the late type reverse gear shift fork pin into the gear shift fork, do not allow it to go all the way in, leave the end protruded as shown in Fig 4 .
