CONDITION

CAUSE

Factory modification.

CORRECTION

Use replacement parts as listed in this bulletin.

REVISION

Additional changes in the input shaft assembly kit, planetary input sun gear assembly, and the addition of an input sun gear washer.

This bulletin is to inform you of the following modifications in the 3-speed automatic transmission:

• The depth of the transmission case assembly has been modified.
• A new reaction sun gear #2 washer has been added.
• The following planetary gear elements have been modified:
  1. Planetary rear sun gear assembly. (May 1990 production and later).
  2. Planetary gear carrier assembly (May 1990 production and later).
  3. Planetary input sun gear assembly (July 1990 production and later).
  4. Planetary ring gear (May 1990 production and later).
  5. Input shaft assembly kit (July 1990 production and later).
  6. Input sun gear washer (July 1990 production and later).

When replacing these parts, please use the modified parts as listed in this bulletin.

MODIFICATION DETAIL

1. Transmission case - The depth of the transmission case assembly as shown in Fig 2 has been modified. The late type is deeper by 2 mm (0.079) than the early type.
2. Reaction sun gear #2 washer. The thickness of the washer is 2.0 mm (0.079 in). See Fig 2 .

3. Planetary Rear Sun Gear Assembly, Planetary Gear Carrier Assembly, Planetary Input Sun Gear Assembly, and Planetary Ring Gear - Gear elements modified. Use updated parts listed in this bulletin.

NOTICE FOR SERVICING

When assembling the low brake drum (planetary rear sun gear), be sure to take notice of the reaction sun gear #2 washer and the installation angles of the thrust washer and thrust bearing. The illustrations in Fig 3 and Fig 4 , show the early and late-type parts:
