Floor Shift Models (Camaro, Chevette, Firebird & 1000)

  1. Floor shift models use a cable operated interference-type neutral start system. A wedge-shaped finger, attached to the ignition switch actuator rod, blocks movement of switch to "START" position in all shift positions except "N" or "P".
  2. Remove floor console cover. Lift cable lock tab up. Turn ignition key switch to "LOCK" position. Push cable connector nose toward connector as far as possible. Push lock tab down.
  3. Check for operation of switch to "Start" position in all shift positions except "P" or "N". Readjust if necessary.
