Mixture Heater: Notes

Mixture heater is also known as Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater. Mixture heater warms air/fuel mixture before entering combustion chamber to improve engine performance when engine is cold. Mixture heater is located between throttle body and intake manifold. Mixture heater is turned on and off by mixture heater relay. When engine is started and coolant (water) temperature is less than 91°F (33°C), ECM and mixture heater relay supply voltage to mixture heater. Heat generating part of mixture heater is in the form of a honey comb and generates heat when voltage is applied.
