Throttle Opener Vacuum Switching Valve (Sidekick)

  1. Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) is Brown in color and is located on right side of valve cover, near front of engine. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Green ECM connector. ECM is located at upper left corner of instrument panel.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from VSV. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage on Light Green/Red wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check circuit between control relay and VSV. If circuit is okay, check control relay. See CONTROL RELAY under RELAYS & SOLENOIDS  in this article.
  3. Connect VSV electrical connector. Disconnect vacuum hoses from VSV. Turn ignition on. Blow air through upper port. Air should exit from lower port and not from filter.
  4. If air exists from lower port, go to next step. If air exists from filter, check for short to ground in Light Green/White wire. If no short is present, replace VSV.
  5. Turn ignition off. Using jumper wire, ground terminal B14 (Light Green/White wire) of ECM. Turn ignition on. Blow air through upper port. Air should exit from filter and not the lower port. If air exists from lower port, check for open in Light Green/White wire. If no open is present, replace VSV. Reconnect vacuum hoses.
