Starter - Gear Reduction: Overhaul: Reassembly
- Lubricate all surfaces as shown in Fig 1. Install overrunning clutch, stop ring and armature ring, note direction of stop ring. See Fig 2.
- Install shaft assembly into front housing with lever positioned, see Fig 3.Making sure that the internal gear housing is aligned so that the holes for the through bolts line up. reinstall the rubber seal and plate into the front housing. apply a coating of grease to the ball and install ball into the armature shaft hole, see Fig 5.
- Fit armature and yoke together then put the assembly into the front housing,being sure to align match marks on the yoke that were made prior to disassembly.
- Apply grease as shown in Fig 1. With brushes mounted to brush holder,install assembly over commutator. Then set springs on all four brushes. Fit spring washer between rear bracket and shaft, see Fig 4. Install and tighten through bolts and brush holder to rear bracket bolts.
- Install and tighten 2 solenoid to drive housing screws. Install starter housing field coil lead to solenoid terminal and tighten retaining nut.
