Starter - Gear Reduction: Overhaul: Disassembly

1. Scribe mating surfaces of starter housing and drive housing and mating surfaces of solenoid and drive housing for reassembly reference. For exploded view of starter motor, see Figure.
2. Remove starter field coil wire to solenoid terminal retaining nut. Remove 2 screws holding solenoid to drive housing.
3. Remove 2 through bolts and 2 bolts holding rear bracket to yoke and front housing. Remove rear bracket from starter housing. Separate yoke and armature from front starter housing.
4. Remove packing and idle gears. Remove solenoid rubber seal and plate. Remove shaft assembly with lever.
5. To remove over-run clutch, push stop ring in toward clutch remove armature ring, and slide-off overrunning clutch. See Fig 1.
