Steering Gear: Inspection
- Check pinion shaft starting torque and operating torque. Refer to PINION SHAFT STARTING TORQUE ADJUSTMENT and PINION SHAFT OPERATING TORQUE ADJUSTMENT in this article. Inspect steering gear case for cracks and abnormalities.
- Check pinion shaft for excessive play. Check oil seals for leaking or cracking. Disassembly of steering gear is not recommended by manufacturer. If abnormalities are found, replace steering gear assembly.
