Crank Angle Sensor
- Turn ignition on. Note if "CHECK ENGINE" light is on. If light is on, attempt to start engine. If engine does functioning properly at this time. Enter self-diagnostics and check for code 42. See TESTS W/CODES article in this section.
- If code 42 is stored in control unit memory, it is an intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TESTS W/O CODES article. If code 41 is stored in memory, check ignition coil tach signal to control unit.
- If engine does not start, crank engine for at least 2 seconds. With ignition still on, enter self-diagnostics and check for code 42. See TESTS W/O CODES article in this section. If code is present, check harness integrity between sensor and control unit. If harness is okay, replace crank angle sensor.
