Crank Angle Sensor

  1. Turn ignition on. Note if "CHECK ENGINE" light is on. If light is on, attempt to start engine. If engine does functioning properly at this time. Enter self-diagnostics and check for code 42. See TESTS W/CODES article in this section.
  2. If code 42 is stored in control unit memory, it is an intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TESTS W/O CODES article. If code 41 is stored in memory, check ignition coil tach signal to control unit.
  3. If engine does not start, crank engine for at least 2 seconds. With ignition still on, enter self-diagnostics and check for code 42. See TESTS W/O CODES article in this section. If code is present, check harness integrity between sensor and control unit. If harness is okay, replace crank angle sensor.
