SERVICE INFORMATION

When installing the water temperature switch during an air conditioner installation, the following procedure must be observed to prevent switch damage.

PROCEDURE

Tighten and torque the water temperature switch using only hand tools with a deep socket for Location of temperature switch refer to Fig 1 .

Specified Torque: 8.6 ft-lbs

CAUTION:

Do not install the switch using air tools.
Do not over torque the switch during installation.
Do not drop or strike the switch in any way.
Do not use sealing tape on threads

SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE

Compressor clutch does not engage.
Condenser fan motor does not turn off.

TROUBLE SHOOTING AND TESTING

With the A/C system "on", connect the water temperature switch lead wire to ground the compressor clutch should engage.
Using a Ohmmeter, check the switch at room temperature for continuity between the housing and terminal. If there is no continuity, the switch is defective and must be replaced.

FACT

The switch contacts arc normally closed, and open (break ground) only during an engine overheating condition.
