TPS Adjustment

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and TPS connector. Apply vacuum to throttle opener until throttle valve moves to idle position. Loosen idle adjustment screw until throttle is closed. Connect ohmmeter between terminals "C" and "D". See Fig 1 .
  2. On vehicles with automatic transmission, place a .094" (2.4 mm) thickness gauge between adjustment screw and stop lever. On vehicles with manual transmission, place a .086" (2.2 mm) thickness gauge between adjustment screw and stop lever.
  3. Loosen TPS attaching screws. Slowly rotate TPS to locate the position that ohmmeter changes from zero continuity to infinity. With TPS sensor in this position, tighten attaching screws to 30 inch lbs. (3.4 N.m) and repeat inspection procedure to verify correct operation.
