Hot Idle Compensation System
During warm vehicle operation, when internal air cleaner temperature is greater than 131°F (55°C), vehicle idle air/fuel mixture may become overly rich. To compensate for this, a bi-metallic Hot Idle Compensator (HIC) valve is installed in the air cleaner base assembly. When vehicle incoming air temperature rises above designated range, bi-metallic HIC valve will open, passing additional air into the intake manifold. This serves to lean out the air/fuel mixture and eliminate idle surge and stumble.
