Bowl Vent Solenoid
- Bowl vent solenoid is located on carburetor. Turn ignition on and off while listening to bowl vent solenoid. Solenoid should click. Remove bowl vent hose from carbon canister. Gently blow through hose while energizing and de-energizing solenoid (ignition on and off). With solenoid de-energized (ignition off), air should pass through solenoid. With solenoid energized (ignition on), air should not pass through solenoid.
- If solenoid functions as described, solenoid is okay and testing is complete. If not, turn ignition off. Disconnect solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at Black/White wire of solenoid harness. Battery voltage is supplied through 15-amp ignition fuse. Turn ignition off. If battery voltage is present, check solenoid resistance using an ohmmeter. Continuity should exist; however, zero resistance is an indication of a shorted solenoid.
- If solenoid did not function properly in step 1), has proper continuity, and battery voltage was present on Black/White solenoid harness wire, check Blue/White control wire for open between control unit and solenoid connector.
