EGR Vacuum Solenoid

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Check Black/White solenoid wire for battery voltage. Battery voltage is supplied through 15-amp ignition fuse. Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, check solenoid resistance. Continuity should exist; however, zero resistance is an indication of a shorted solenoid.
  2. Remove vacuum hoses from solenoid. Connect short section of hose to center fitting of solenoid. Blow through hose. Air should exit through lower fitting. Energize solenoid by applying battery voltage to Black/White wire solenoid terminal and ground to Blue/Black wire solenoid terminal. Blow through hose. Air should exit through capped filter. Replace solenoid or repair ground circuit from control unit if solenoid does not respond as described.
