Steering Gear: Inspection
- Check pinion shaft starting torque and operating torque. Refer to PINION SHAFT STARTING TORQUE and PINION SHAFT OPERATING TORQUE in ADJUSTMENTS in this article. Inspect steering gear case for cracks.
- Check pinion shaft for excessive play. Check oil seals for cracking or leaking. Disassembly of the steering gear is not recommended. If any abnormalities are found, replace steering gear as a unit.
