Pinion Shaft Operating Torque

  1. Repeat steps 1) through 3) of the PINION SHAFT STARTING TORQUE procedure. Pull on the spring scale to turn flexible joint through a complete turning cycle.
  2. Note the operating torque measurement. Operating torque should be under 6.96 INCH lbs. (1.58-2.63 N.m). If not, loosen or tighten No. 1 adjusting bolt as necessary.
  3. If pinion shaft starting torque and operating torque tests have been performed and adjustment is not possible, replace steering gear as a unit.
