Piston & Rod Assembly: Installation

  1. Mount connecting rod on aligner and inspect for bend and twist. Bend limit is .002" (.05 mm). Twist limit is .0039" (.10 mm). If necessary, replace connecting rod.
  2. Lubricate all internal surfaces with engine oil before installation. Ensure that arrow on piston head faces front of engine. Ensure that lubrication jet in connecting rod faces intake side of engine.
  3. Position piston ring gaps. See Fig 1 . Connecting rod side clearance limit is .0137" (.35 mm). Install cylinder head, oil pick-up screen and oil pan. Reverse removal procedure.
