Steering Knuckle: Removal
- Remove hub and bearing. See WHEEL BEARING in this article. Loosen but DO NOT remove upper and lower kingpin retaining bolts. Remove dust cover, caliper holder and wheel spindle from axle housing. See Figure.
- Remove tie rod nut at steering knuckle. Using tie rod separator, separate tie rod from steering knuckle. Remove steering knuckle oil seal. See STEERING KNUCKLE OIL SEAL in this article.CAUTION: Kingpins must be marked for location prior to removal. Kingpins and shims must be installed in original location.
- Mark kingpins for location. Remove kingpins from steering knuckle. Note location of shims. Shims and kingpins must be installed in original location.
- Remove steering knuckle and kingpin bearings. DO NOT allow lower kingpin bearing to drop during steering knuckle removal.
