Leaf Spring: Installation

  1. If bushings require replacement, remove bushings from spring. Coat bushings with soapy water and install in spring. DO NOT apply oil to bushings for installation.
    CAUTION: Spring bushings should only be coated with soapy water during installation. DO NOT use oil for bushing installation.
  2. Reverse removal procedures. Install leaf spring bolt and shackle pins from the outside of vehicle inward.
  3. Install shackle inner and outer plates with flat area toward the leaf spring. Measure distance between upper and lower shackle pins on both sides of leaf spring.
  4. The distance between shackle pins should be within 0F.024" (04F.60 mm). Tighten shackle pin nut to specification with no load applied to leaf spring.
  5. Ensure leaf spring center bolt is properly positioned in axle housing and spring seat. Tighten all fasteners to specification. Tighten "U" bolts evenly to specification.
