Removal Procedure

- Lock the steering column in the centered position with the wheels straight forward.
- Remove the left side engine splash shield. Refer to ENGINE SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - LEFT SIDE .
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1). Discard the bolt.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft seal from the body panel pass through.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the power steering gear and collapse it into its shortest position.
- Remove the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to DRIVER KNEE BOLSTER REINFORCEMENT REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and nut (2).NOTE: Place scribe marks on the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column connection prior to removal.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft through the vehicle interior.
