Removal Procedure

  1. Lock the steering column in the centered position with the wheels straight forward.
  2. Remove the left side engine splash shield. Refer to ENGINE SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - LEFT SIDE .

  3. Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1). Discard the bolt.
  4. Separate the intermediate steering shaft seal from the body panel pass through.
  5. Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the power steering gear and collapse it into its shortest position.
  6. Remove the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to DRIVER KNEE BOLSTER REINFORCEMENT REPLACEMENT .

  7. Remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and nut (2).
    NOTE: Place scribe marks on the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column connection prior to removal.
  8. Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.
  9. Remove the intermediate steering shaft through the vehicle interior.
