Installation Procedure

NOTE: If a new intermediate steering shaft is being installed transfer the position of the alignment marks from the old component to the same location on the new component. Failure to transfer the alignment marks may result in an off-center steering wheel after installation.
  1. Install the intermediate steering shaft through the vehicle interior.
  2. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.

    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and nut (2).

    Tightening torque 

    Tighten the bolt and nut to 34 N.m (25 lb ft). 

  4. Install the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to DRIVER KNEE BOLSTER REINFORCEMENT REPLACEMENT .
  5. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the power steering gear

  6. Install a new intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1).

    Tightening torque 

    Tighten the bolt to 34 N.m (25 lb ft). 

  7. Seat the intermediate steering shaft seal into the body panel pass through.
  8. Install the left side engine splash shield. Refer to ENGINE SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - LEFT SIDE .
