Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  2. Remove the front tire and wheel. Refer to REMOVAL PROCEDURE .

  3. Insert a brass drift or equivalent in the brake rotor cooling fins and the brake caliper mounting bracket to prevent the wheel drive shaft from turning.
  4. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut.
  5. Remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Refer to RACK AND PINION OUTER TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT .
  6. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the stabilizer shaft. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT .

  7. Using the J 21579, remove the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub.
  8. Remove the J 21579 from the steering knuckle.
  9. Remove the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to REMOVAL PROCEDURE .
  10. Assemble the J 45341 and the J 2619-01.

    NOTE:
    • It may be necessary to cap the transmission or transfer case, if equipped to prevent fluid loss.
    • Use care not to damage the wheel drive shaft seal inner or outer boot seals on removal.
  11. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle.
