Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Disconnect battery cables. Disconnect positive battery cable and Black/Yellow lead wire from starter motor terminals. Disconnect White lead wire and coupler from alternator terminals. Disconnect lead wires from coolant temperature gauge and thermal switch. Gauge and switch are located on intake manifold. Disconnect ground wire from intake manifold.
- Disconnect couplers from carburetor fuel cut-off solenoid, vent solenoid and mixture control soleniod. Disconnect couplers from the 3-way solenoid valve and vacuum switching valve. Remove warm air hose. Disconnect breather hose from air cleaner case. Remove air intake case from carburetor body and air inlet hose.
- Disconnect accelerator cable from carburetor. Disconnect vacuum hoses of thermostatic controlled air cleaner. Disconnect canister from intake manifold. Remove fuel tank filler cap to release fuel vapor pressure in fuel tank. Reinstall fuel filler cap. Disconnect fuel supply line and return hoses from fuel pump.
- Disconnect lead wire from oil pressure unit terminal and oxygen sensor lead wire at coupler. Disconnect lead wires of back-up light switch and 5th gear switch. Disconnect distributor lead wire at distributor coupler. Remove high tension wire from ignition coil. Drain radiator.
- Disconnect hoses from thermostat cap and inlet pipe. Remove cooling fan and clutch. Remove fan shroud and radiator. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose. Disconnect Black lead wire from distributor gear case at coupler. Remove 4 bolts fastening gear shift lever boot No. 2 and move boot upward. Move gear shift No. 1 to upper side of shift lever. Loosen 3 bolts on gear shift lever case and remove shift lever from lever case.
- Raise vehicle. Disconnect muffler from exhaust manifold. Disconnect clutch cable from engine mounting bracket and clutch release lever. Drain transmission oil. Remove drive shaft connecting transmission case to transfer case. Support engine with chain hoist.NOTE: Install chain hoist on 2 hooks provided. One hook is mounted on intake manifold side and another on exhaust manifold side of engine.
- Remove exhaust center pipe mounting bracket and 4 transmission mounting bolts. Remove pipe connected to chassis under transmission. Lower vehicle. Remove 4 bolts securing right and left engine mounting brackets. Ensure that all hoses, electrical wires and cables are disconnected. Remove engine. Remove clutch lower plate. Separate engine from transmission.
