Fuel Cut System

This system consists of a solenoid valve mounted in the primary idle circuit of the carburetor, Fig. 12. The solenoid valve cuts off fuel supply to prevent dieseling when the ignition is shut off, and to improve fuel economy and reduce catalyst overheating during deceleration.
Fuel supply is cut when the following conditions are met:
a. Coolant is at normal operating temperature.
b. Idle micro switch is in ON position, primary throttle valve is closed.
c. Engine speed above 2400 RPM.

Testing
1. Check that fuel cut solenoid valve clicks when ignition switch is turned on and off without starting engine.
2. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
3. With transaxle in neutral and clutch engaged, increase engine speed to 3000-3500 RPM. Manually operate idle micro switch and observe RPM change, Fig. 13.
4. Perform same check with clutch pedal depressed. Engine RPM should not change.
