SUBJECT: SERVICING OF SPEEDOMETER CABLE

MODEL: SAMURAI

YEAR: ALL


CONDITION: Brokens speedometer cable.


CAUSE: Improper routing of cable.


CORRECTION: Follow procedure outlined below.


Caution: Improper routing of speedometer cable can cause premature cable breakage. To avoid damage be sure there is no sharp cable bend. For proper installation follow the procedure below.





SPEEDOMETER CABLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.

2. Remove instrument lower cover.


3. Remove steering column bolts.


4. Remove "CHECK ENGINE" light cancel switch.


5. Remove combination meter screws.


6. Remove combination meter assembly from instrument panel and disconnect wiring connectors and speedometer cable.


Caution: When removing combination meter be sure not to damage hazard warning switch. To facilitate removal operation, pull the steering wheel down slightly.





7. Pull speedometer cable end free from speedometer to bring it toward the interior.





8. Lift up the vehicle.

9. Remove speedometer cable grommet from floor panel.

10. Remove clamps holding speedometer cable.

11. Disconnect speedometer cable at speedometer driven gear case on the transfer gearbox.





INSTALLATION

Installation is the reverse order of removal process.
