SUBJECT: CONVERTIBLE TOP MODIFICATION


The convertible top has been modified to improve its appearance and ease of removal and installation. Tension Bands and Bow Location Snaps have been added to the rear window area. The modification has been made to both standard and deluxe models starting with VIN JS3JC51C-H4164410 or JS4JC51C-H4164300.

The modified top will fit all 1986 and 1987 Samurais, however, vehicles having VIN's before those referenced above, must have a fitting set and new top bow installed before the modified top can be attached properly. The parts needed for the conversion are as follows:

1. Fitting Set, Canvas 78400-83810

2 - Bracket, Tension Band
2 - Band, Top Bow
5 - Male Snap, Top Bow Rear
2 - Nut, Tension Band Bracket

2. Frame, Top Bow 78470-80001

These parts are currently available from the Parts Department (Refer to Parts Bulletin 87-12-4).


Modified Top Installation Procedures (When Fitting is Used)

1. Remove the old convertible top.

2. Remove top bow assembly.




3. Install the five (5) male snaps on the new top bow in the holes provided (see Illustration A).

4. Install the new top bow assembly on the vehicle.




5. Install the tension band brackets on both sides of the rear inside body panel (see Illustration B).




6. Install the new top, securing the bow snaps and tension bands (see Illustration C).
