Clutch Assembly: Removal
- From within passenger compartment, loosen 4 shift lever boot fastening bolts. Move outside and inside boots upward. Loosen gear shift lever case cover bolts. Remove shift lever.
- From within engine compartment, disconnect negative and positive battery cables. Disconnect back-up light and 5th gear switch. Disconnect Black/Yellow wire and positive wire from starter motor. Remove starter motor from transmission case. Remove clamps attaching fuel hoses to transmission case.
- From under engine, remove drain plug and drain transmission oil. Disconnect clutch wire from clutch release lever. Remove drive shaft No. 1 attaching transmission to transfer case. Remove drive shaft No. 2 attaching transfer case to front differential.
- Remove clutch housing lower plate from transmission case. Remove bolts and nuts fastening engine cylinder block and transmission case. Remove cross bar and exhaust center pipe. Remove transmission rear mounting bracket from chassis and transmission case. Lower transmission from vehicle. See Fig 1
.
- Install flywheel holder. Index mark position of pressure plate to flywheel. Remove 6 bolts securing pressure plate to flywheel. Remove pressure plate and clutch disc. Remove clutch release bearing from transmission input shaft bearing retainer.
