Clearing Codes

After malfunction has been corrected, trouble code will clear from memory when CLEAR MEMORY mode is accessed. Unless all items check okay in D-CHECK mode, memory will not be cleared. See RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MODES & CONNECTORS  table.

To clear codes, connect test connectors as shown in RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MODES & CONNECTORS  table. Press accelerator pedal to floor, then at 1/2-throttle position for 2 seconds, then release. Start engine. If check engine light does not go out, check and repair faults indicated by existing codes. If check engine light does not blink, race engine at full throttle, then drive at a speed greater than 5 MPH. With engine running above 1500 RPM, check that light blinks. If check engine light is illuminated steadily, check for codes and repair faults. If check engine light blinks, stop engine and disconnect check connectors.
