Power Steering Pump: Disassembly

  1. Place pump in a soft-jawed vise. Remove reservoir from pump. Using 2 wrenches, remove pipe from pump. Remove adapter and "O" ring. See Fig 1 .

  2. Tilt pump assembly. Remove adapter, "O" ring, pressure valve and spring. Use caution not to drop the pressure valve. Remove bolts retaining rear body to front body. Separate rear body from front body. On all except XT Coupe, remove seal washer.
  3. On XT Coupe, remove cam case and "O" ring. Remove snap ring and detach spacer. Remove pins. Carefully remove rotor and cam ring as an assembly. Remove "O" ring from cam ring and vanes from rotor. Remove shaft and seal from front body.
  4. On all except XT Coupe, remove side plate, spring and "O" rings. Remove shaft from front body. Press bearing from shaft. Using a screwdriver, remove seal from front body. Discard seal. Do not damage front body during seal removal.
