September 30: LEMON manuals is back up on a temporary server! Slowness is possible
Diagnostic Procedures
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Record DTC and failure record information. Clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Start engine and allow to idle for 10 seconds. Slowly accelerate to 4000 RPM and hold for 5 seconds, then slowly return to idle. Check if DTC P0336 is active. If DTC P0336 is not active, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If DTC P0336 is active, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor RPM while accelerating from idle to WOT and back to idle. If engine speed (RPM) cuts out intermittently, go to next step. If engine speed (RPM) does not cut out intermittently, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Check for CKP sensor Yellow wire and Purple wire for intermittent open between CKP sensor and PCM connectors. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP harness connector. See Figure or Figure
. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using DVOM, check voltage on CKP sensor connector terminals "A" (Purple wire) and "B" (Yellow wire). If voltage is not present on either terminal, go to next step. If voltage is present on either circuit, repair short to voltage in affected circuit.
- Check for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) on CKP sensor circuit. EMI can be caused by CKP circuit too close to battery or starter cables, electrically noisy generator or spark plugs wire that are not firmly seated.
