DTC P0341: Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Performance: Description
Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor produces an AC voltage of different amplitude and frequency depending on velocity of camshaft in order for ECM to determine camshaft position. CMP sensor detects a single tooth on reluctor wheel. ECM expects signal wire to be near 5 volts when reluctor wheel tooth passes sensor and near zero volt during remainder of reluctor wheel revolution. ECM constantly monitors CMP signal and expects to see a switch from low to high once every 2 crankshaft revolutions. CMP sensor is used to determine which of 2 cylinders is on firing stroke. With CKP sensor and CMP sensor inputs, ECM can properly synchronize ignition timing, fuel delivery and engine knock control. DTC sets when CMP sensor signal voltage pattern that ECM detects is invalid.
