Diagnostic Aids

When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem, use scan tool to review malfunction history information. This data can be used to duplicate a problem.

If DTC P0403, P0405, P1403 or P1404 is set, diagnose affected DTC(s) first. A diagnosed EGR solenoid or EGR position sensor fault will cause this DTC to set.

Use scan tool to command EGR SOLENOID ON while monitoring EGR SENSOR. The values for EGR sensor at a commanded state of zero percent (0.5-1.0 volts) and 70 percent (4.2-4.7 volts).

Debris is most likely the cause of the DTC. If EGR sensor values do not fall within these ranges, remove EGR valve and clean pintle. Retest EGR valve and replace if necessary.
