Cruise Control Function Check
- On M/T vehicles, cruise control switch, clutch pedal, and brake pedal are used when diagnosing faults. On A/T vehicles, cruise control switch, brake pedal, and selector lever are used when diagnosing faults. Before beginning diagnosis, check cruise control module power supply at terminal "F" (Brown/White wire) and ground supply at terminal "E" (Black wire). Ensure control module electrical connection is clean and tight. Repair as necessary.
- To enter diagnosis mode, ensure engine is off and parking brake is applied. On M/T vehicles, depress clutch pedal. On A/T vehicles, put selector lever in "N" position. Hold cruise control switch in CANCEL position and start engine.
- If CRUISE light comes on to indicate diagnosis mode, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not come on to indicate diagnosis mode, check CRUISE light bulb.
- Release CANCEL button. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, go to CANCEL POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Press SET button. If CRUISE light comes on, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not come on, go to SET POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Release SET button. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, go to SET POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Move switch to RES position. If CRUISE light comes on, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not come on, go to RESUME POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Release RES button. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, go to RESUME POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Move switch to ON/OFF position. If CRUISE light comes on, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, go to ON/OFF POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- Release ON/OFF switch. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, go to ON/OFF POSITION under CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.
- On A/T, shift transmission to "D" position. On M/T, release clutch. If CRUISE light comes on, go to next step. If cruise light does not come on, check selector lever position sensor on A/T or clutch pedal switch on M/T. Go to PIN VOLTAGE TESTS .
- Depress brake pedal. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, check brake pedal switch. Go to PIN VOLTAGE TESTS .
- Release brake pedal. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not go out, check brake pedal switch. Go to PIN VOLTAGE TESTS .
- On A/T, shift transmission to "N" position. On M/T, press clutch pedal. If CRUISE light goes out, go to next step. If cruise light does not go out, check selector lever position sensor on A/T or clutch pedal switch on M/T. Go to PIN VOLTAGE TESTS .
- Depress brake pedal for about 5 seconds. If CRUISE light comes on, then goes out after about 5 seconds, go to next step. If CRUISE light does not come on, check brake light switch and cruise control module. Go to PIN VOLTAGE TESTS .
- Release brake pedal. If there is a slight acceleration, go to next step. If there is no acceleration, check stepping motor. See STEPPING MOTOR .
- Drive off slowly. If CRUISE light flashes in time with vehicle speed, system is okay. If CRUISE light does not flash in time with vehicle speed, check vehicle speed signal. See SPEED SIGNAL .
