Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac G8. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X4 harness connector at the BCM.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the STOP fuse B+ circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  3. Connect the X4 harness connector at the BCM.
  4. Disconnect the harness connectors at the following components.
    • CHMSL
    • Tail/stop lamp - left
    • Tail/stop lamp - right
  5. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal MJR at the tail/stop lamp - right and ground.
  6. Ignition ON, command the stop lamps ON and OFF by applying and releasing the brake pedal. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  7. Reconnect each component one at a time and verify the DTC does not reset as current.
    • If the DTC resets as current, test or replace the component responsible for setting the DTC.
