DTC 14, Enable Relay Contact Circuit Open: Notes

Ignition voltage is supplied to enable relay. EBCM energizes enable relay pull-in coil by completing ground circuit for relay. The magnetic field created will close enable relay contacts to supply battery voltage to EBCM, providing power to motors and solenoids. This DTC monitors availability of voltage and current to motors and solenoids. DTC 14 indicates voltage is not available, and ABS operation is not possible. ABS is disabled and ABS warning light is turned on.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. To identify circuits and terminals referenced in text and flowcharts, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .

  1. Determines whether DTC 16 is also set as current or history. If DTC 16 is set, proceed to that chart first.
  2. Verifies that fault is currently present.
  3. Verifies that relay can be turned on and provide voltage to EBCM.
  4. Checks for high resistance in switched battery circuit from relay to EBCM.
  5. Checks for high resistance in switched battery circuit from battery to relay.
  6. Checks condition of enable relay.
  7. Determines whether fault is caused by poor contacts at relay.
  8. Determines if EBCM is cause of fault.
