Key Cannot Be Removed (Ignition In Off Position) - "V" Body (CATERA)
- Remove ignition switch and ignition lock cylinder. Check ignition switch, lock cylinder and steering column for damage or mechanical faults. If ignition switch, lock cylinder and steering column are okay, go to next step. If ignition switch, lock cylinder or steering column are damaged, repair or replace component as necessary, then go to step 6.
- Reinstall ignition switch and lock cylinder. Disconnect lifting magnet 7-pin connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between lifting magnet connector terminal No. 1 and ground. See Figure. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check CLAMP W PBSL fuse No. 24 (10-amp) located in fuse block left of steering column. If fuse is okay go to step 4. If fuse is blown, go to step 5.
- Measure resistance between lifting magnet connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace automatic transmission lock/unlock switch, then go to step 6. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace lifting magnet assembly, then go to step 6.
- Check for an open or high resistance in circuit between lifting magnet connector terminal No. 1 and CLAMP W PBSL fuse No. 24. Repair as necessary, then go to step 6. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuit is okay, replace ignition switch, then go to step 6.
- Check for short to ground in circuit between lifting magnet connector terminal No. 1 and CLAMP W PBSL fuse No. 24. Repair as necessary, then go to next step. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuit is okay, replace ignition switch, then go to next step.
- Ensure all components disconnected or removed during testing are reconnected and installed on vehicle. Ensure ignition key can be removed. Reinstall ignition key and ensure operation of ignition switch is correct. If ignition key still cannot be removed, repeat step 1.
