July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Case Extension Housing: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Disconnect the right drive axle from the transaxle. See appropriate article in DRIVE AXLES.
  2. Remove the right (rear) engine mount. See appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article. Remove the right (rear) engine mount bracket. Remove the transaxle brace. See TRANSAXLE BRACE  .
  3. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR  . Remove the case extension bolts. Remove the case extension housing with axle seal and the O-ring. See Fig 1 .
  4. Inspect the case extension housing for the following conditions:
    • Damaged or porous sealing surface for the case extension seal.
    • Damaged or porous sealing surface for the vehicle speed sensor.
    • Damaged or porous sealing surface for the right drive axle oil seal.
    • Damaged or porous sealing surface for the case extension housing.
    • Damaged or worn differential carrier bushing or output shaft bearing.
    • Damaged bolt holes.
    • Inspect the drive axle seal and replace if necessary.
