Power Adjuster Assembly: Disassembly

WARNING: Failure to place power adjuster in a bench vise before removing the rear vertical gearnut nut will cause ejection of the compressed assist spring and possible personal injury.
  1. Remove rear vertical gearnut nut (55). See Fig 1 .Place power adjuster (45) in a bench vise and remove the rear vertical gearnut (55). Open the vise slowly to relieve assist spring compression, and remove power adjuster (45) from vise.
  2. Remove vertical assist spring (51).
  3. Remove front vertical gearnut nut (54).
  4. Remove screws (43) from adjuster horizontal actuator (44).
  5. Remove adjuster horizontal actuator (44).
  6. Remove gearnut screws (56).
  7. Remove rear vertical gearnut (52).
  8. Remove front vertical gearnut (50).
