Curtain AIR Bag Module

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove curtain air bag module from vehicle. See CURTAIN AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cut inflator from curtain air bag. See Fig 1 . Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to curtain air bag inflator using Deployment Tool Adapter (J44230). See Fig 2 .
- Place inflator in a discarded tire without a wheel. See Fig 3 . Place tire and inflator on top of another tire without a wheel. Place another tire without a wheel on top of both tires. Top tire stack with a tire and wheel assembly. Tie all tires together to keep stack upright. See Fig 4 .
- Position a fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal. Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck light. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (5 m) of tire stack. Press deployment tool button to deploy curtain air bag inflator.
